Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, BMW’s iconic Art Car series continues to command global attention through commemorative races and retrospective showcases. As part of the milestone, BMW has once again partnered with PUMA to debut a new capsule collection inspired by Cao Fei’s 2017 BMW M6 GT3 Art Car—a landmark work that merges digital expression with motorsport performance.

A New Chapter in the BMW x PUMA Collaboration

The latest capsule marks the third collaboration between BMW and PUMA, following previous releases that honored Alexander Calder’s BMW 3.0 CSL Art Car. This new installment transforms Cao Fei’s futuristic vision into a line of sleek streetwear pieces, translating the car’s digitally rendered forms into garments that bridge fashion, art, and automotive culture.

Cao Fei described her Art Car as an exploration of the boundary between physical and virtual realms, combining elements of data, speed, and sensory experience. “It isn’t just a physical presence on the racetrack, but a spiritual vessel that lives equally in digital space and social discourse,” she explained in an official statement.

Translating an Art Car into Everyday Design

Reflecting on the capsule, Fei emphasized the significance of bringing her concept into daily life. “Moving it from the racetrack into everyday life is the most vivid realization of its core idea,” she said. By turning her Art Car into wearable design, the collection embodies the piece’s ability to transcend its original medium and connect with a broader audience.

A Dynamic Showcase at BMW M Festival Chengdu

To honor the capsule’s launch, PUMA joined the BMW M Festival at the Tianfu International Circuit in Chengdu, China. The event offered a vibrant, immersive environment where global creatives and tastemakers explored both the new collection and the broader world of contemporary BMW culture.

Guests kicked off the day by touring the festival grounds, participating in go-kart races, and visiting interactive pop-ups across the circuit. Later, attendees gathered for an intimate conversation with Cao Fei, who discussed her creative process while standing beside her 2017 BMW M6 GT3. She also signed garments and posters for fans and collectors.

Racing Into the Night

As evening fell, guests donned the bold racer jackets from the capsule collection and headed back to the track for test drives in a lineup of BMW M2 and M3 models. The illuminated circuit lights reflected off the garments’ fluorescent pink tones, bringing Cao Fei’s digital-meets-physical artistic vision to life and highlighting the synergy between fashion and motorsport heritage.
