With the help of the nonprofit organization “A Mind’s Pursuit,” men no longer need to suffer in silence.

Although the subject has gained more recognition in recent years, mental health, especially for men, still has a long way to go. A Mind’s Pursuit, a Los Angeles based 501(c) (3), was created to help people overcome their mental health struggles by letting them know they’re not alone in the challenges they face. This mission comes from the organization's founder, Mikey Tableman, rooted in the struggles he himself faced while working in the nightlife industry.

Today, Mikey and his team advocate for mental health through a variety of media and events, including the podcasts Conversation with the Boys and Chaos Controlled, as well as Mikey’s upcoming book My Manic Maze, set to release in Summer 2026.

Why Do Men Need Mental Health Support?

Per the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), nearly 1 in 10 men experience depression or anxiety. Still, less than half will receive treatment, and more than 4 times as many men as women die by suicide every year. Meanwhile, over 6 million men suffer from depression per year, yet male depression as a whole often goes underdiagnosed.

Mikey writes in My Manic Maze that this lack of support for men mostly comes from generational stigmas men themselves have perpetuated. He notes that he was also a victim of that culture, believing that talking about mental health issues or struggles with addiction would only make other men see him as weak. The idea that men have to tough out their problems is an outdated and harmful one, which is why Mikey and the rest of A Mind’s Pursuit aim to tackle that specific issue in much of their work.

My Manic Maze: A Patchwork of Self-Discovery

My Manic Maze, according to Mikey, is “a multi-layered project that came out of trying to make sense of my own mind when things weren’t okay.” The book started as a collection of “thoughts I couldn’t say out loud,” then added poetry and a music album designed to make the conversation immersive and, ideally, honest, letting readers know they’re not alone.

“It doesn’t stay surface level, it goes into those darker places that most people avoid talking about, and it does it in a way that’s vulnerable and direct,” Mikey explains. “It’s not just an expression, it's an explanation. You get the emotion, and then you get the truth behind it.”

This approach works alongside A Mind’s Pursuit’s other media platforms, namely Conversation with the Boys, to create a system that enables more men to meet and connect so that they can talk, share, and feel seen.

Mikey plans to expand this ecosystem to include college chapters, “so younger men have a place to have these conversations earlier in life.” In doing so, A Mind’s Pursuit could play an important role in helping the next generation of men escape the stigma that’s kept so many from talking about their problems for so long.

Have the Courage to Talk

You don’t have to suffer in silence; if you’re struggling with your mental health, there are outlets, people, and organizations such as A Mind’s Pursuit waiting to connect with you so you can share your pain without fear of judgment. Books such as My Manic Maze, meanwhile, contain stories that help you navigate those feelings and improve your mindset.
