The 2023 Emmy Awards Set a New Date

After scheduling conflicts due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, the Television Academy and FOX have landed on a new date for the 2023 Emmy Awards. As revealed in a joint press release, the 75th annual Emmy Awards will air on next year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, 2024.

Two weeks ago, the show was postponed for the first time ever, aside from following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. There was no release date announced at the time; the vendors were simply told that the show “[would] not air” on its initially intended date of September 18.

A team of producers (Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay) from Jesse Collins Entertainment will executive produce the show. The ceremony will be available to stream on FOX, beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST and 5:00 p.m. PST. Furthermore, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which spotlight artistic and technical milestones across television, will take place the week prior (on January 6 and 7) and will see an edited-down broadcast set to air on FXX on January 13.

While the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes persist, writers and actors remain hungry for a resolution. The strikes did not affect Emmy voting, however, with the last round still set to take place as scheduled from August 17 through August 28.
