McLaren Unveils Triple Crown-Inspired Livery for Project: Endurance Hypercar

A tribute to McLaren’s racing heritage

McLaren has revealed a bold new livery for its Project: Endurance Le Mans Hypercar at Monterey Car Week, paying homage to the team’s historic first Triple Crown win at the 1974 Indianapolis 500.

Design inspired by the Indy 500 legend

The livery draws direct inspiration from Johnny Rutherford’s victorious McLaren M16. It features the iconic McLaren Orange, accented with a dark blue center stripe that nods to the Texas flag. On the roof, a lone white star celebrates Rutherford’s “Lone Star JR” nickname, while his race number 3 is paired with McLaren’s Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark logos for an authentic throwback look.

Project: Endurance and McLaren’s comeback

Unveiled initially at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, Project: Endurance represents McLaren’s official return to elite endurance racing. Unlike traditional race programs, it is a customer-focused initiative, offering owners not only an authentic Hypercar but also full immersion into the development process and racing lifestyle.

A unique ownership experience

Buyers will gain access to a two-year track driving program across world-class circuits, complete with coaching from professional drivers. The program also includes pit crew and engineering support, allowing participants to fully experience what it takes to master a Le Mans Hypercar on track.
