Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Breed of Greed, a psychological thriller directed by Ralph Hemecker (Once Upon a Time). The film premiered Friday, September 26, 2025, with a same-day release in theaters and on VOD, a strategy designed to reach both theatergoers and at-home audiences.

Breed of Greed explores privilege, legacy, and hidden power. The Wendolyn family, once a dominant force in the pharmaceutical world, begins to fracture after the death of its patriarch. As the heirs gather to divide his estate, rivalries turn vicious. Henry Wendolyn, played by Andrew Boszhardt, who also co-wrote and produced, uncovers a supernatural presence feeding on the family’s collapse.

The screenplay, co-written by Hemecker, Boszhardt, and Otto Eckstein, combines genre thrills with social commentary. Boszhardt described the team’s vision: “We wanted to make a film that was topical but also timeless. Everyone loves a good downfall story, and we tried to make one that was entertaining and fun, not preachy. We could not be more excited to have Vertical as our partner.”

The cast brings together established and rising talent. Gina Gershon (Bound, Face/Off) anchors the ensemble with her trademark intensity, joined by Chelsea Gilligan (Star-Crossed), Madison Lewis (Alexander IRL), and Adrian Enscoe (Dickinson). Boszhardt’s multiple roles as writer, producer, and actor give the film added depth and personal resonance.

Tony Piantedosi, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions at Vertical, praised the project: “Ralph has done a remarkable job of balancing horror thrills with a dark sense of humor rooted in modern headlines of the privileged class. We look forward to presenting the film to North American audiences.”

The deal was negotiated by Piantedosi for Vertical, with VMI representing the filmmakers.

Breed of Greed reflects how thrillers are evolving to pair entertainment with cultural critique. By weaving themes of wealth, morality, and unseen forces into a suspenseful story, the film connects with contemporary anxieties while keeping audiences on edge.

The acquisition adds to Vertical’s growing slate of standout titles, including Kristin Scott Thomas’s My Mother’s Wedding, Ron Howard’s Eden, and Chad Hartigan’s The Threesome. Together, these films highlight the distributor’s commitment to balancing star power with bold storytelling.

With Hemecker’s direction, Gershon’s commanding presence, and Boszhardt’s multi-hyphenate performance, Breed of Greed is positioned to be one of the fall’s most talked-about thrillers. Catch it in theaters or on VOD beginning September 26, 2025.
